Steps to Configure the Google Analytics API Service Connector
Steps to Set-up the Source
  1. Click on the “Services” menu link in the left pane.
  2. Click on the “+” next to the Google Analytics Reporting service.
  3. Enter the Source Name.
  4. Enter the optional Source Description.  Text in the description is useful during search requests.
  5. The Service should already default to “Google Analytics Reporting”.
  6. Enter the Client ID.  You can create/download the API credentials in the online Google Developer’s Console. For authenticating against the Google API, we require you to create a JSON file (and not a P12 file).
  7. In the Service Account JSON File Path, navigate to the JSON file you created in step 6.
  8. Select the Client Scope from the drop down list.
  9. Click Save to create the new source.
Steps to Set-up the Task
  1. Click on the “Projects” menu link in the left pane.
  2. If there are no projects listed, create a new project, otherwise go to step 3.
  3. Click on the project name that will contain the task. Click the “Add Task” button.
  4. Enter the Task Name.
  5. Enter the optional Task Description.  Text in the description is useful during search requests.
  6. The Project is where the task will be saved and it will default to the Project name selected from the project list.  If you need to change the project, select the new project from the drop down list.
  7. The Source will default to the source name that is set as the default for the project.  If you need to change the source, select the new source from the drop down list.
  8. Enter the Start Date. If using a hard-coded date, the format should be YYYY-MM-DD. If you want to use a relative date, Google lets you use today, yesterday, or NDaysAgo , where N is a number of days (e.g., 30DaysAgo).
  9. Enter the End Date. If using a hard-coded date, the format should be YYYY-MM-DD. If you want to use a relative date, Google lets you use today, yesterday, or NDaysAgo , where N is a number of days (e.g., 30DaysAgo).
  10. Enter your View ID. You must prefix the View ID with ga: For example, if your View ID is 12345, then you should enter ga:12345
  11. Enter your dimensions, separated by commas with no spaces (e.g., ga:date,ga:userType)
  12. Enter your metrics, separated by commas with no spaces (e.g., ga:sessions,ga:bounces)
  13. Enter the path or browse to the Save To Folder. The Save To Folder location defaults to the same location you set in your project, but you can also override it.
  14. Enter the file name for the output file.
  15. Select the File Type from the drop down list.  When saved, the file name will end with the selected file type.
  16. Click Save to create the new Task.

For more information on which combinations of Google Analytics dimensions and metrics are valid, visit Google’s Reporting Explorer.

Running the Task
  1. Click on the “Projects” menu link in the left pane.
  2. Select the Project that contains the task.
  3. In the Tasks list, click the Run Google Analytics API Task run icon for the task you would like to run.  The data will be downloaded from your service using the API and saved to the output file location. During the run, a Run Task dialog window will open with a task log of the run.  You can use this log to troubleshoot any run-time issues.
