Facebook Insights

You are here:

The Facebook Insights API allows you to get Insights information on your Facebook Page as well as its posts.

To use the Facebook Insights API, you should use a non-expiring Page Access Token. For instructions on how to get such a token, check out our blog post for more details.

The available metrics for the Page Insights can be found in Facebook’s developer documentation.

Create A Source

  1. Go to the Sources view and add a new Source.
  2. In the Sources form, select “Facebook Insights” in the Service field.
  3. Fill out any prerequisite fields like Name, etc.
  4. Enter in the URL for the Facebook API. This is usually https://graph.facebook.com/3.2
  5. In the Page Slug field, enter the name of your Facebook Page. For example, if your facebook page is https://facebook.com/mycoolfacebookpage, then mycoolfacebookpage is your slug. If your page doesn’t have a name and uses a number instead, then enter that number in this field.
  6. In the Access Token field, paste your Page Access token for the Facebook Page set in step 4. If you do not want to change this token constantly, make sure you use a non-expiring Page Access Token.

Create A Task

  1. Go to the Projects view and select an existing project, or create a new project.
  2. Once in the project, create a new task.
  3. In the Source field, select the name of the source you created.
  4. Fill out the name and description and output options as required.
  5. In the Data Type field dropdown, select Page or Page Posts. Follow the instructions below as appropriate to your choice.

Data Type: Page

Page Metrics are aggregated insights for the Facebook page specified in the source. Depending on the Data Range type you selected, you will receive one or more rows keyed by date. Note that the way Facebook Insights dates are handled using something called an “end_date”, which is uses a time 00:00 for the date specified. Note that because 00:00 is the beginning of a new day, that the date for the data is actually for the day before that date.

  1. Select a Data Range Type (Date Preset or Range)
  2. If you selected Date Preset, select a preset from the Date Preset drop down that appears.
  3. If you selected Range, use the Date Pickers for Start Date and End Date. Also set the UTC Time Zone Offset to -8 unless you have a specific reason to use a different value.
  4. Enter all the metrics you’d like in the Metrics field, separated with commas, with no spaces.
  5. Save your task.

Data Type: Page Posts

Page Posts iterates through all posts on a Facebook Page and gets Insight metrics for each page. The current version of Page Posts only supports Lifetime metrics. Lifetime metrics are measured up to the time the API call is made.
